Ok - I know Christmas has passed. Over the past month there has been an assault on usage of the word 'Christmas' Well during a war, Congress decided to have debates about the killing of Christmas. Here is an actual passage/poem by Congressman Dingell. It's hilarious.
'Twas the week before Christmas and all through the House,no bills were passed 'bout which Fox News could grouse.Tax cuts for the wealthy were passed with great cheer,so vacations in St. Barts soon should be near.Katrina kids were all nestled snug in motel beds, while visions of school and home danced in their heads. In Iraq, our soldiers need supplies and a plan, and nuclear weapons are being built in Iran.Gas prices shot up, consumer confidence fell.Americans feared we were in a fast track to ... well.Wait, we need a distraction, something divisive and wily,a fabrication straight from the mouth of O'Reilly. We will pretend Christmas is under attack, hold a vote to save it, then pat ourselves on the back.Silent Night, First Noel, Away in the Manger,Wake up Congress, they're in no danger. This time of year, we see Christmas everywhere we go,From churches to homes to schools and, yes, even Costco. What we have is an attempt to divide and destroywhen this is the season to unite us with joy.At Christmastime, we're taught to unite. We don't need a made-up reason to fight. So on O'Reilly, on Hannity, on Coulter and those right-wing blogs. You should sit back and relax, have a few egg nogs.'Tis the holiday season; enjoy it a pinch. With all our real problems, do we really need another Grinch? So to my friends and my colleagues, I say with delight,a Merry Christmas to all, and to Bill O'Reilly, happy holidays.Ho, ho, ho. Merry Christmas.

Violence on the Metro
Please read this blog if you ride the WMATA Metro. http://lugnochro.blogspot.com/2005/11/what-happened-thursday.html
This is sad. This woman got mugged in broad daylight on a redline train near Van Ness and Cleveland Park and no one helped her. The driver was just repeatedly trying to close the doors as the woman tried to get attention and help. No one helped her as she was being mugged. The driver kept trying to close the doors, although protocol reequires the driver to stop the train. The metro station manager would not help the lady. And there were no metro police around to assist.
Please be cautious of rowdy groups of 4-7 teenage girls. If you feel uneasy and the train is in motion, immediately get off at the ext stop and remove yourself from the presence of these criminals. You're gut reaction is usually right, trust it, it is your survival instinct kicking in. Yes, we humans do have that ability.
When I was a teenager, I remember giggling, gossiping about boys, and having plain fun. The most awful thing about these girls robbing people is that their form of 'fun' consists of violating people and stealing ipods and smart trip cards. If these girls are caught they should be sent to iraq to rebuild the nation. What a brilliant idea...Send criminals to Iraq to rebuild the nation. I will have to adress that in another post. In the meantime - stay safe.

History of Violence
Please don't believe the hype. History of Violence is not as good as the critics seem to think it is. Viggo needs to petition for more Lord of the Ring movies because this movie was the pits. I heard that it was based on a graphic novel...note to self - No more graphic novels...I hated Sin City and I love all the actors in Sin City. History is slow moving and you know what the entirety of the movie is about before you toss the first kernel of popcorn in your mouth. Honestly, the preview gives it away. I want my money back.

Why I Killed My Cat - There are so many reasons. First, he kept peeing in my daughter's bed. By Emily Yoffe
This article is sad and hilarious. It hurts to have a pet that pisses you off by being the anti-pet. People have pets to make them happy, to be companiions, to relieve stress etc. Admittedly, these are selfish reasons. However, in exchange these pets get warm homes, a person to love and pet them and Eukanuba food with loads of vitamins. Decent pet owners deal with the hassle of veterinarian visits, vomiting (hair balls), white fur on the favorite pair of black jeans and other annoyances because that comes with the pet-owning territory. Unfortunately, some animals who seem to hail from Pet Semetary and make life torture by peeing on ones bed (repeatedly), make other animal's lives hell and making an owner regret the decision to own that particular pet. This article, while unfortunate, details what happens (or should happen) when a pet becomes a demon and there is no turning back. http://slate.msn.com/id/2126249/nav/tap1/

New Growth
I created this blog with the intent to capture the struggle and glory of giving up hair relaxers and growing my natural hair. Hence the name newgrowth. I wonder why I never did. Maybe because there is so much struggle and little pleasure that it is too painful and sad to write about at present. No one wants to read a tragedy involving my hair struggles. Then I think to myself...this is my biggest concern...the texture of my hair...when there are people in the world who are suffering the effects of the tsunami. things that make you go hmmm.

Description of the Gates
Exercpt from the artists website...
"After Michael R. Bloomberg, Mayor of New York City, announced, on January 22, 2003, that a contract had been signed permitting New York artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude to realize their temporary work of art: The Gates, Central Park, New York, 1979-2005, the fabrication of all the materials was started. The installation, at the site in Central Park, was completed with the blooming of the 7,500 fabric panels on February 12, 2005.
The 7,500 gates, 16 feet (4,87 meters) tall varying in width from 5 feet 6 inches to 18 feet (1,68 to 5,48 meters) according to the 25 different widths of walkways, on 23 miles (37 kilometers) of walkways in Central Park. Free hanging saffron colored fabric panels, suspended from the horizontal top part of the gates, come down to approximately 7 feet (2,13 meters) above the ground. The gates are spaced at 12 foot (3,65 meter) intervals, except where low branches extend above the walkways. The gates and the fabric panels can be seen from far away through the leafless branches of the trees. The work of art will remain for 16 days, then the gates will be removed and the materials will be recycled."
